Phils & Pads Talk Trade

The Phillies have reportedly offered CF Aaron Rowand to San Diego in hopes of receiving setup man Scott Linebrink in return. Should the trade eventually go through, Shane Victorino could serve as a capable replacement. If not, there is always the possibility of luring another potential centerfielder, sending Jon Lieber packing.

"It might be something we discuss again later this spring," Towers said. "But right now I want to see what we have in spring training. I want to see how [outfielder] Terrmel Sledge plays and how our bullpen shapes up."

One possibility is that they have another trade they can make involving righthander Jon Lieber that would bring an outfielder in return. Another would be that the talks with San Diego would be expanded with Lieber being packaged with Rowand and the Phillies also receiving an outfielder (maybe Sledge or Mike Cameron).
Offseason and trading deadline moves which net them Freddie Garcia, Scott Linebrink and Mike Cameron would give the Phillies reason to name a cheesesteak after Pat Gillick.
